> **Independence.** This page is a Wikitube reading guide written by MTN. It is not a Minnesota State page. Minnesota State, its Centers of Excellence and colleges, NASA and the other organizations named here have not reviewed, endorsed or sponsored it; it describes no specific partnership or agreement with any of them; and nothing on it commits them to anything. What the page says about them comes from their own public pages and is cited. Everything else, from the map and the counts to the shelf and the work list, is Wikitube's own. A center of excellence is a team or facility that leads practice and training in one focus area. Minnesota State, a system of public colleges and universities in Minnesota, hosts seven of them, "each serving a major industry that faces serious workforce challenges."[^coe] This portal maps those industries to the rooms, articles and microsims on Wikitube that carry the science under them. In August 2026 NASA selected one of them, the Transportation Center of Excellence, as one of seven Aerospace Skilled Technical Workforce State Hubs,[^ms] and this page sets that hub's training areas beside what the site already has. Wikitube's Microsims are learning objects for testing, credentialing and intern curation and validation. ## How to read this page The page keeps two layers apart. Sectionsreport Minnesota State, the Centers and NASA say about themselves, with a source for every figure, date and name; any such fact repeated elsewhere on the page carries its source too. The rest is Wikitube's own: the sections headed **Wikitube**, which map each sector to the rooms, articles and microsims that carry its science and count how much of it exists today, and the production standard, spine, shelf, crosslinks, work list and notes. The map is editorial judgment. No Center asked for it, and each Center's own site is the authority on what it teaches. Counts were taken on September 19, 2026. A microsim counts as live when its player answered that day.[^count] ## Report: Minnesota State's Centers of Excellence Minnesota State lists seven Centers of Excellence.[^coe] Minnesota State sunset the Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence at Bemidji State University and moved its operations and programs to the Engineering Center at Minnesota State Mankato; the combined unit is the Minnesota State Engineering and Applied Manufacturing Center of Excellence.[^mfg] | Center, as Minnesota State lists it | What the Center's own site describes | Site | |---|---|---| | Northern Agricultural | Programs and career pathways in agriculture, food and natural resources[^agn] | [agcentric.org](https://www.agcentric.org/) | | Southern Agricultural | Work to "promote and establish agricultural education excellence in Minnesota across the industry"[^ags] | [centerofagriculture.org](https://www.centerofagriculture.org/) | | Energy | The address Minnesota State lists for the Center redirects to Powering Minnesota, whose college-partner list includes solar, wind, electrical line work, nuclear technology, mechatronics and water quality programs[^nrg] | [energycareersminnesota.org](https://www.energycareersminnesota.org/) | | Engineering and Applied Manufacturing | Engineering design challenges for grades 3–12;[^eng] a manufacturing site that lists programs college by college, for example Hennepin Technical College's machining, welding and fabrication, and robotics, automation and mechatronics programs[^mnmfg] | [engineering.mnsu.edu](https://engineering.mnsu.edu/) · [mnmfg.org](https://www.mnmfg.org/) | | HealthForce | A health care core curriculum, and an initiative on the shortage of clinical-laboratory training facilities[^hf] | [healthforceminnesota.org](https://healthforceminnesota.org/) | | IT | Hands-on work with hardware, Python, Linux and cyber threats, and camps on programming a microcontroller and on how AI works[^it] | [minnesotatechresources.org](https://www.minnesotatechresources.org/) | | Transportation | Automotive, aviation, collision repair, diesel equipment and truck, marine and powersports, railroad, and truck driving[^trn] | [minntran.org](https://www.minntran.org/) | ## — NASA's aerospace workforce hub in Minnesota On August 19, 2026, NASA announced that it had "awarded approximately $10.5 million to seven institutions" for NASA State Hubs, cooperative agreements funded by its Office of STEM Engagement through the Next Gen STEM Project.[^nasa] Minnesota State Colleges and Universities is one of the seven.[^nasa] Minnesota State's release of August 20 says NASA selected the Transportation Center of Excellence "as one of seven Aerospace Skilled Technical Workforce State Hubs in the nation and the only hub located in the Midwest," and describes "a three-year, $1.5 million initiative."[^ms] The hub is the Minnesota Aerospace Skilled Technical Workforce Hub (MnASTW), led by the Transportation Center.[^mnastw] Federal spending records list the award as cooperative agreement 80NSSC26M0067, with a period of performance from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2029.[^usa] The release says the initiative "will align training in welding, precision machining, automation, robotics, avionics, nondestructive testing, and systems integration with employer demand." Over three years it aims to enroll 1,800 to 2,400 students in aerospace-aligned pathways and award 500 to 700 aerospace-specific credentials; to establish 140 to 200 new registered apprenticeships and internships; to reach 1,000 to 1,400 high school students; and to provide professional development for educators.[^ms] Its core college partners are Dakota County Technical College, Pine Technical & Community College and Ridgewater College, and the release also names industry and workforce partners.[^ms] ## Wikitube — ⊙ the center circle: Space Mining in Minnesota <!-- SECTIONSIMS:BEGIN g34 2026-09-19 - microsims the articles linked here play; generated by _tools/generate/g34_portal_section_sims.py; do not hand-edit inside --> *Microsims from the articles this section links:* <div class="wt-simrow"> <div class="wt-sim" data-src="https://wikitube-3d-microsims.netlify.app/solar/Solar_System.html?obj=Moon&amp;embed=1" data-title="The Moon in the Solar System explorer"></div> <div class="wt-sim" data-src="https://wikitube-3d-microsims.netlify.app/solar/Solar_System.html?obj=Mars&amp;embed=1" data-title="Mars in the Solar System explorer"></div> <div class="wt-sim" data-src="https://editor.p5js.org/sciencenibber/full/p472uEZ32" data-title="Mars"></div> <div class="wt-sim" data-src="https://wikitube-3d-microsims.netlify.app/solar/Solar_System.html?obj=trojans&amp;embed=1" data-title="The Jupiter trojans in the Solar System explorer"></div> </div> <!-- SECTIONSIMS:END --> *Wikitube layer: this site's own map.* Wikitube lays out the eight sectors on this page in a ring around one center, Space Mining in Minnesota.[^thury] The center is MTN's own room, not a Minnesota State Center. Wikitube's production standard for microsims lives in two master classes: WT!Three_js_Microsim_Master_Class for three.js scenes (its page is being restored to the site) and WT!P5_js_Microsim_Master_Class for p5.js sketches. The standard is the same in every room on this page: one file per sim; the canonical equation on screen, with a live readout of what the sim is computing; no network calls, no storage and no sound that plays by itself; and the word ILLUSTRATIVE wherever the model simplifies. Production deploys are a person's decision, not an agent's. ## Spine | # | Article | Reveal | Microsim | Node | |---|---------|--------|----------|------| | ⊙ | WT!Space_Mining_In_Minnesota | | | center | | 1 | WT!Engineering_Center_of_Excellence | p5 | | ring:0 | | 2 | WT!Advanced_Manufacturing_Center_of_Excellence | p5 | | ring:1 | | 3 | WT!Transportation_Center_of_Excellence | | | ring:2 | | 4 | WT!Energy_Center_of_Excellence | p5 | | ring:3 | | 5 | WT!IT_Center_of_Excellence | p5 | | ring:4 | | 6 | WT!HealthForce_Center_of_Excellence | p5 | | ring:5 | | 7 | WT!Northern_Agricultural_Center_of_Excellence | | | ring:6 | | 8 | WT!Southern_Agricultural_Center_of_Excellence | | | ring:7 | | 9 | WT!Three_js_Microsim_Master_Class | three | | | | 10 | WT!P5_js_Microsim_Master_Class | p5 | | | ## Book shelf | # | Title | Where it serves this page | Where it is | |---|---|---|---| | 1 | Basic Engineering Science: A Systems, Accounting, and Modeling Approach (2001) | Engineering, and the systems-and-accounting approach under every sector | [open.umn.edu](https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/textbooks/basic-engineering-science-a-systems-accounting-and-modeling-approach) | | 2 | Manufacturing Processes 4-5 (2019) | Advanced Manufacturing: machining | [open.umn.edu](https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/textbooks/manufacturing-processes-4-5) | | 3 | Sustainable Mobility (2024) | Transportation | [open.umn.edu](https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/textbooks/sustainable-mobility) | | 4 | Introduction to Biosystems Engineering (2021) | Northern and Southern Agricultural | [open.umn.edu](https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/textbooks/introduction-to-biosystems-engineering) | | 5 | Health and Safety in Canadian Workplaces (2016) | Workplace health and safety for every sector (a Canadian text) | [open.umn.edu](https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/textbooks/health-and-safety-in-canadian-workplaces) | | 6 | The STEM Advantage: Career Planning and Internship Strategies (2025) | Careers and internships (written for postgraduate students) | [open.umn.edu](https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/textbooks/the-stem-advantage-career-planning-and-internship-strategies-for-science-technology-engineering-and-mathematics-postgraduate-students) | Each sector also has a four- or five-book bridge shelf in the library of the compendium, and the center circle has one of its own. ## Crosslinks - Anchor article: Center_of_excellence (not written yet). - The spines that carry a Centers of Excellence section: PORTAL_Acoustics (vibration), PORTAL_Signal_Processing (signals) and PORTAL_WT!Thury_Hydrodynamics_Compendium (fluids). - Rooms that carry the hub's training areas, on Wikitube's map: PORTAL_Engineering, PORTAL_Control_theory, PORTAL_Robotics, PORTAL_Avionics, PORTAL_Systems_engineering. - The center circle's rooms: PORTAL_Solar_System, PORTAL_Helium-3, PORTAL_Physics. - Front door: Welcome · index: PORTAL_INDEX · all rooms: portals. ## Work list 1. Write or restore the missing pages: the Transportation, Northern Agricultural and Southern Agricultural flagships, the center circle (WT!Space_Mining_In_Minnesota) and the three.js master class (WT!Three_js_Microsim_Master_Class). 2. Bring the five written flagship pages, and the Centers table in PORTAL_WT!Thury_Hydrodynamics_Compendium, in line with this one: an independence line, Minnesota State's count of seven Centers, and no host institution without a source. 3. Write the nine articles in the "Not written yet" column of the NASA training table. 4. Deploy the staged players on PORTAL_Engineering (11) and PORTAL_Robotics (17). 5. Start the Southern Agricultural list; none of its 50 crosswalk articles is on Wikitube yet. 6. Write this page's anchor article, Center_of_excellence. ## Notes - **Seven or eight.** Minnesota State lists seven Centers.[^coe] Wikitube keeps eight sectors, as MTN decided on September 10, 2026, when the crosswalk was drawn up; merging Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing later is a relabel, not a rebuild. The five flagship pages written in July 2026 still call their Center "one of the eight". - **Counts can run ahead of a page.** PORTAL_Robotics still says none of its own set is live; 14 of its players answered on September 19, 2026. - **How the counts were made.** See the note on counting.[^count] [^coe]: Minnesota State, "Minnesota State Centers of Excellence," https://www.minnstate.edu/coe/index.html (accessed September 19, 2026). Players are the microsim links a page embeds (click-to-load cards and iframes); each was requested that day, and "live" means it answered. "Staged" means built, placed on the page, and not yet deployed. Crosswalk counts match the 600 titles against the article pages. --- *Rewritten 2026-09-19 as a draft of the 2026-07-29 stub · From minnstate.edu, nasa.gov, minntran.org, usaspending.gov and MTN's 2026-09-10 claim ledger · counts from `wiki/`, `portals/` and `_registry/`, every player link checked live on 2026-09-19 · SIMGALLERY and CRAFT-LINK blocks carried over unchanged · index: PORTAL_INDEX* --- *Repopulated 2026-09-19 · append-only · source: _tools/generate/g34_portal_section_sims.py@00a28cb2 (players of the linked articles, each URL 200-checked) · 73 added · 0 deletions* --- *Center circle written 2026-09-22 · append-only · Space Mining Pt 1 run under MTN's WT! authorization: WT!Space_Mining_In_Minnesota now exists in `wiki/` (30 sections in six parts, the Ore Line hero and three section sims built, their players pending MTN's production publish) with its apex portal PORTAL_WT!Space_Mining_In_Minnesota (Microsim and Article worklists at its foot, serving PORTAL_Physics, PORTAL_Chemistry, PORTAL_Engineering, PORTAL_Space, PORTAL_Mining, PORTAL_Manufacturing, PORTAL_Minnesota and the PORTAL_Computation megalith) · Work list item 1's center circle is written; the "not on the current site" line and the Asteroid_mining "not written yet" tag above stand until the site deploy and that article land · 0 deletions*
