## Story
Einsteinium was discovered in 1952 in the debris of the Ivy Mike thermonuclear (hydrogen bomb) test conducted on Enewetak Atoll. The element was identified by Glenn T. Seaborg and his team, who detected it in radioactive fallout samples. Einsteinium was named in honor of Albert Einstein, the theoretical physicist whose mass-energy equivalence E=mc² underpins nuclear reactions. Einsteinium-252, the longest-lived isotope, has a half-life of about 471 days. [model-prior - verify]
Einsteinium is a synthetic actinide metal with no primordial occurrence. It is extremely radioactive and toxic, produced only in trace quantities in nuclear reactors or as a weapon-test byproduct. Because it is so rare and unstable, einsteinium has no practical applications outside of basic nuclear physics research. The element's discovery as a fallout product highlighted the widespread creation of transuranic elements in thermonuclear explosions.
In the canon, einsteinium embodies the atomic age at its most dramatic: an element created in the thermonuclear inferno, detected in the radioactive dust of nuclear testing, and named after the greatest theorist of the twentieth century. It is a haunting reminder of how particle physics and geopolitical power became entangled in the Cold War.
## Corpus connections
Einsteinium was created in thermonuclear detonation and discovered in weapon-test fallout. It links nuclear physics to Cold War geopolitics and is named after Einstein's relativistic theories that made nuclear energy possible.
