# Hydrogen
Hydrogen is the lightest and most abundant chemical element, a diatomic ignoble gas whose single proton and electron make it the reference case for atomic structure, and whose combination with Oxygen powers the oxyhydrogen reaction family at the heart of the Thury spine.

## Overview
One proton fixes its atomic number at 1; the lone electron makes the atom exactly solvable, the textbook case of quantum mechanics and the anchor of the abundance of the chemical elements. It leads the alkali-metal column while behaving like no metal at standard temperature and pressure, and its phases run from cryogenic liquid near its critical point — the province of cryogenics — to metallic states conjectured deep in planets.
As a primordial nuclide it is the fuel of stars and the ancestor, through fusion, of helium; on Earth it partners oxygen in water and stores energy for flight and grid alike, its every acid-base and redox move counted against the ledger of the atmosphere of Earth.
