He did so on the same day the incumbent announced she would not seek reelection in 2026.[^4] In 2023 he was arrested in [[Kanabec County, Minnesota]], for driving while intoxicated. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years of supervised probation.[^5] ## Early life, education, and career Wolgamott grew up in Elkhorn, a neighborhood of Omaha, Nebraska, and is a graduate of Elkhorn High School.[^6] He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Saint John's University.[^6] During 2011 he interned in the office of U.S. Representative [[Tim Walz]].[^6] ## Minnesota House of Representatives His first legislative campaign, in 2014, was for the House seat in District 14A, and Republican Tama Theis defeated him.[^2] Two years later he sought the District 14 seat in the [[Minnesota Senate]]. Republican Jerry Relph defeated him by 141 votes.[^2] He won a House seat in 2018 and has won reelection in each two-year cycle since.[^2] During the 2021–22 session he served as an assistant majority leader of the DFL House Caucus.[^2] He took the oath as the House's speaker pro tempore on January 3, 2023.[^2] As of the cached Wikipedia text (retrieved October 26, 2026), he is vice chair of the Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee. The bill would further change how cryptocurrencies enter the computation of investment income and alternative minimum taxable income for state income tax purposes.[^3] The record assembled here does not show the bill's committee action or final disposition.[^3] ## State Auditor candidacy Incumbent State Auditor Julie Blaha announced on September 4, 2025, that she would not run for another term in 2026.[^4] Wolgamott declared his own candidacy for the office that day.[^4] ## Personal life Wolgamott lives in St. Cloud and has two children.[^7] He married in 2014 and divorced in 2021. They issued him a misdemeanor citation for leaving a vehicle on private property without the owner's consent.[^5] On July 7, 2023, he was arrested in Kanabec County for driving while intoxicated.[^5] The cached account says that, two weeks later, surveillance video from a liquor store showed him drinking from a bottle of alcohol in the parking lot and then driving away. It does not specify the date the video depicts.[^5] Blood tests put his blood alcohol content at 0.09, above Minnesota's legal limit of 0.08.[^5] On August 7, 2023, he was charged with two counts of driving under the influence.[^5] He entered a guilty plea in September and received a sentence of two years of supervised probation.[^5] ## Notes [^1]: Wikipedia, *Dan Wolgamott* (revision 1365539712, retrieved 2026-10-26) — lead: birth date, office since 2019, DFL membership, District 14B and the areas it includes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Wolgamott [^2]: Wikipedia, *Dan Wolgamott* (revision 1365539712, retrieved 2026-10-26) — "Minnesota House of Representatives" section: 2014 and 2016 losses, 2018 election and reelections, 2021–22 assistant majority leader role, January 3, 2023 swearing-in as speaker pro tempore, committee assignments. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Wolgamott [^3]: Wikipedia, *Dan Wolgamott* (revision 1365539712, retrieved 2026-10-26) — "Legislative record" section: Minnesota Bitcoin Act co-authored with Bernie Perryman, introduced April 1, 2025, and its provisions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Wolgamott [^4]: Wikipedia, *Dan Wolgamott* (revision 1365539712, retrieved 2026-10-26) — "State Auditor candidacy" section: Julie Blaha's September 4, 2025 announcement and Wolgamott's same-day candidacy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Wolgamott [^5]: Wikipedia, *Dan Wolgamott* (revision 1365539712, retrieved 2026-10-26) — "Legal issues" subsection: January 9, 2021 Golden Valley citation; July 7, 2023 Kanabec County arrest, blood test, August 7 charges, September guilty plea and sentence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Wolgamott [^6]: Wikipedia, *Dan Wolgamott* (revision 1365539712, retrieved 2026-10-26) — "Early life, education, and career" section: upbringing in Elkhorn, Omaha; schooling; 2011 internship in Tim Walz's office. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Wolgamott [^7]: Wikipedia, *Dan Wolgamott* (revision 1365539712, retrieved 2026-10-26) — "Personal life" section: residence, children, 2014 marriage, 2021 divorce, June 2024 engagement, August 2025 marriage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Wolgamott
