# Davis County, Minnesota
*Former county in Minnesota, created in 1855 and disbanded in 1862.*
Davis County was a county of [[Minnesota]] that existed from 1855 to 1862.[^1]
The county was formed in 1855 out of Cass, Nicollet, Pierce and Sibley counties. It was disbanded seven years later, and its remaining area was absorbed into Chippewa and Lac qui Parle counties.[^1]
## History
Four existing counties contributed to the formation of Davis County in 1855: Cass, Nicollet, Pierce and Sibley.[^1] In 1862 the county ceased to exist. Its residual territory was divided between Chippewa County and Lac qui Parle County.[^1]
For county administration, judicial matters, or both, Davis County was attached to Stearns and Lac qui Parle counties.[^1] The cited source does not give the dates of that attachment or of the creation and dissolution. It also does not identify the legislative instruments by which those changes were made, so the record assembled here does not establish them.[^1]
## Geography
The county's position is given as approximately 45.150°N, 96.017°W (45°9′N 96°1′W).[^1]
