# Erin Maye Quade *American politician from Minnesota; member of the Minnesota Senate, elected 2022* Erin Maye Quade (born March 12, 1986) is a Minnesota politician of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL). She won election to the Minnesota Senate in 2022.[^1] Before that she held a seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives for one term, from 2017 to 2019. Earlier she had worked on the staff of U.S. Representative Keith Ellison.[^1] In 2018 she ran for lieutenant governor as the running mate of Erin Murphy. That ticket received the DFL endorsement but lost the August primary to Tim Walz and Peggy Flanagan.[^2] The evidence pack for this article carries a single source, the Wikipedia article on her (revision 1369700924, retrieved October 26, 2026). No primary filing, election return or legislative record in the pack has been checked against it, so every fact below rests on that source alone.[^1] ## Early life and education Maye Quade completed Eastview High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota, in 2004.[^3] Four years later she earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, with studies in political science and in justice and peace studies.[^3] As a student she took up campus organizing on social justice issues, including causes affecting faculty and disabled students.[^3] ## Career After graduating, she did community organizing. She then joined Ellison's congressional staff, and the source records that Ellison urged her to seek office.[^4] ## Minnesota House of Representatives In 2016 Maye Quade sought the District 57A seat in the House. In the general election she beat Republican nominee Ali Jimenez-Hopper, 52% to 47%.[^5] The source records that her seat was one of two Minnesota House seats to pass from Republican to DFL control in that election.[^5] In 2017 she accused two fellow legislators, Dan Schoen and Tony Cornish, of sexual harassment. Both resigned their seats.[^6] After the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School, she led a 24-hour sit-in at the House over the chamber's failure to act on gun control.[^6] ## 2018 gubernatorial campaign Murphy, then a candidate for governor, named Maye Quade as her running mate in June 2018.[^7] On June 3, 2018, the DFL state convention endorsed Maye Quade by acclamation, when she was 32.[^7] In the DFL primary that August, U.S. Representative Tim Walz and State Representative Peggy Flanagan defeated the Murphy–Maye Quade ticket.[^7] ## Minnesota State Senate In October 2021 Maye Quade declared her candidacy for the Senate seat then held by Greg Clausen.[^8] She gave her campaign speech at the DFL convention on April 23, 2022, while in labor.[^8] When the convention did not give her its nomination, she suspended her campaign, and she gave birth early on April 24.[^8] She re-entered the race in May and won the seat. She and Clare Oumou Verbeten were both elected to the Senate that year.[^8] In 2026 she introduced a bill to prohibit "nudification" websites.[^9] ## Personal life Her spouse is political director of the Minnesota DFL. Her spouse previously worked as Midwest organizing manager for Everytown for Gun Safety.[^10] ## Notes [^1]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924, retrieved 2026-10-26, CC BY-SA 4.0) — lead: birth date, party, 2022 Senate election, 2017–2019 House service, Ellison staff role. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade [^2]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924) — lead and "2018 gubernatorial campaign": running-mate candidacy, DFL endorsement, August 2018 primary loss. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade [^3]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924), section "Early life and education" — 2004 high-school graduation, 2008 degree, campus organizing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade [^4]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924), section "Career" — community organizing and Ellison staff role. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade [^5]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924), section "Minnesota House of Representatives" — 2016 District 57A race, 52%–47% result, seat change. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade [^6]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924), section "Minnesota House of Representatives" — 2017 harassment accusations and resignations; 24-hour sit-in after the Stoneman Douglas shooting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade [^7]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924), section "2018 gubernatorial campaign" — June 2018 selection, June 3, 2018 endorsement by acclamation, August 2018 primary result. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade [^8]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924), section "Minnesota State Senate" — October 2021 candidacy, April 23–24, 2022 convention events, May 2022 re-entry, election. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade [^9]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924), section "Minnesota State Senate" — 2026 bill on "nudification" websites. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade [^10]: Wikipedia contributors, *Erin Maye Quade* (revision 1369700924), section "Personal life" — spouse's positions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Maye_Quade
