*Minnesota legislator and 13th lieutenant governor of Minnesota (1855–1928)*
Frank Arah Day (September 30, 1855 – December 27, 1928) served in both chambers of the [[Minnesota]] State Legislature and was the state's 13th [[Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota]].[^1] He founded a newspaper in Fairmont and entered the state House of Representatives in 1878. He sat in the state Senate from 1886 to 1895 and was lieutenant governor from January 31, 1895, to January 5, 1897.[^1]
Day entered politics through the local [[Republican Party (United States)]]. In the 1890s he became involved with the Silver Republican Party. He returned to the state Senate as an independent after the 1926 election and died in office in 1928.[^1]
## Life and career
Day was a native of Attica, Wisconsin.[^1] In 1874 he came to Minnesota and made his home in Fairmont.[^1] There he established and published the *Martin County (later Fairmont) Sentinel* newspaper, and he later took part in local Republican politics.[^1]
Voters elected him to the Minnesota State House of Representatives in 1878. The source reports that he was then the youngest member serving.[^1] From 1886 to 1895 he sat in the Minnesota State Senate.[^1]
He served as lieutenant governor from January 31, 1895, to January 5, 1897.[^1] He took the office after [[Knute Nelson]] won election to the United States Senate and Nelson's lieutenant governor, [[David Marston Clough]], replaced Nelson as [[Governor of Minnesota]].[^1] During the 1890s Day also became associated with the Silver Republican Party.[^1]
In 1926 Day again won a seat in the Minnesota State Senate, this time as an independent.[^1] He died in Winona, Minnesota, in 1928 after a paralytic stroke, while he still held office. He was buried in Fairmont.[^1]
