# Jerome Fuller *American lawyer and chief justice of the Minnesota Territorial Supreme Court, 1851–1852* Jerome Fuller (June 26, 1808 – September 2, 1880) was a lawyer from New York. He held the office of chief justice of the [[Minnesota Territorial Supreme Court]] from 1851 to 1852.[^1] President Millard Fillmore named him to the court on November 13, 1851, after [[Aaron Goodrich]] had been removed from it.[^1] The [[United States Senate]] denied Fuller's appointment. Word of the Senate's action reached St. Paul only after Fuller had arrived and taken up the court's work. He sat for the court's July 1852 term and held the post through the close of 1852.[^1] ## Early life and career Fuller was born in Litchfield, Connecticut, in 1808. Little is documented about his youth.[^1] He later settled in Brockport, New York.[^1] Monroe County elected him to the New York State Assembly in 1843. He represented the 27th District in the New York State Senate in 1848 and 1849.[^1] He was the founding editor of the *Albany Register* newspaper.[^1] ## Minnesota Territorial Supreme Court Fuller's Minnesota service can be set out as a sequence of dated events:[^1] - Fillmore appointed him on November 13, 1851, following Goodrich's removal. - The Senate denied the appointment. - Fuller reached St. Paul and began work on the court before news of the denial arrived. - He sat for the court's July 1852 term. - He remained in office until the end of 1852. ## Later life and death Fuller went back to Brockport, where he won election as County Judge.[^1] He died on September 2, 1880.
