# Laketown Township
*Township in Carver County, Minnesota, United States*
Laketown Township is a civil township of [[Carver County, Minnesota]], in the U.S. state of [[Minnesota]]. The 2020 census counted 1,966 residents there.[^1] The township was organized in 1858 and takes its name from the many small lakes within it.[^1]
The township appears in two entries of the project's at-issue record. The first sets a January 2025 White House presidential action on ending illegal discrimination and restoring merit-based opportunity[^2] beside the 1918 enemy-alien registration of Henrietta and John Gast of Laketown Township. According to a hometownsource.com report, the Gasts' son Ferdinand served in the U.S. military during the same war.[^3] The second sets a March 2026 presidential action establishing a task force to eliminate fraud[^4] beside a Carver County objection to the Metropolitan Council's classification of the township in its [[Imagine 2050]] plan.

## In the at-issue record
**AI-Carver-044 (1918 registration).** According to a hometownsource.com report, over 480,000 German "enemy aliens" registered nationwide under President Wilson's 1918 proclamation. Among them were Henrietta and John Gast of Laketown Township, who had emigrated from Prussia in 1888. Their son Ferdinand served in the U.S. military during the war.[^3] The report and the record describe the proclamation's twelve regulations as restricting firearms, requiring residency permits in designated zones and authorizing arrest without formal proceedings.[^3] The at-issue record pairs this entry with the January 2025 presidential action on ending illegal discrimination and restoring merit-based opportunity.[^2]
**AI-Carver-061 (*Imagine 2050*).** The record states that Carver County filed five comments on the Metropolitan Council's *Imagine 2050* plan. One of them objected to the Council's designation of Laketown Township as "Diversified Rural" while other townships were designated "Agricultural." As quoted in the record, the county wrote that "There is no distinction in the County Comprehensive Plan between any of the Townships," a treatment it dated to the 1970s. The record describes the result as the reclassification of a township the county had treated identically for fifty years. It cites a Metropolitan Council document as its source for the comment. The record pairs this entry with the March 2026 presidential action establishing a task force to eliminate fraud.[^4]
