# Minnesota Correctional Facility–Shakopee
*A Minnesota state prison for women, located in Scott County.*
The Minnesota Correctional Facility–Shakopee is the only women's prison in [[Minnesota]]. It is located in Scott County and has held the state's entire female prison population since 1920.[^1]
Its population grew from about forty-eight in the 1970s to 620 in 2020.[^1] A 2024 federal PREA audit of the facility found no standards unmet and made no corrective recommendations.[^2] A 2020 prison audit recorded that the facility had the lowest rate of serious prisoner-on-prisoner violence in the state system.[^3]
## Where
The facility is in Scott County. It is the state's only prison for women and has housed all of Minnesota's female prisoners since 1920.[^1]
## How many
- **Population.** About forty-eight people were held at the facility in the 1970s. By 2020 the figure was 620.[^1]
- **2024 PREA audit.** The federal audit counted five standards exceeded, forty met and zero not met, with no corrective recommendations.[^2]
- **Violence rate, 2020.** The 2020 prison audit found that serious prisoner-on-prisoner violence occurred at a lower rate at Shakopee than at any other facility in the state system.[^3]
## In the at-issue record
The project's at-issue record ties the facility's population figures to the March 2025 presidential action *Protecting America's Bank Account Against Fraud, Waste, and Abuse*.[^4] It ties both audit results, the clean 2024 PREA result and the 2020 violence-rate finding, to the March 2025 presidential action *Stopping Waste, Fraud, and Abuse by Eliminating Information Silos*.[^5] These presidential actions do not themselves address the facility. The record carries both audit results alongside the facility's population growth, and it records the favorable findings on the same footing as the rest of the file.[^2][^3]
