# Ron Kresha
*American politician, member of the Minnesota House of Representatives*
Ron Kresha (born December 16, 1969) is a member of the [[Minnesota House of Representatives]], where he has sat since 2013 as a member of the [[Republican Party of Minnesota]].[^1] His seat, District 10A in north-central [[Minnesota]], takes in Little Falls together with portions of Aitkin, Crow Wing, Kanabec, Mille Lacs and Morrison Counties.[^1]
In the House he has held caucus leadership posts, including assistant majority leader and majority whip. He is now the minority lead on the Education Finance Committee.[^2] On education he has opposed most of the proposals of Governor [[Tim Walz]] and has backed legislation to change the state constitution's education clause.[^3]
## Early life, education and career
Kresha's birthplace is Columbus, Nebraska. He went to high school there at Scotus Central Catholic High School.[^4] He holds a bachelor's degree in English from [[St. Cloud State University]] and a master of business administration in finance and accounting from Bellevue University.[^4]
## Minnesota House of Representatives
Kresha won his House seat in the 2012 election, running for a seat left open by legislative redistricting. He has won each biennial election since.[^2] In the 2022 primary he was challenged from the right. The House Republican Caucus responded by raising its spending in the district to hold the seat.[^2]
Kresha was an assistant majority leader in 2015–2016. He was the Republican House caucus's majority whip in 2017–2018.[^2] When Joyce Peppin retired in 2018, Kresha was mentioned as a possible successor.[^2] He currently leads the minority on the Education Finance Committee and is a member of the Ways and Means Committee.[^2]
### Education
In 2015, Kresha backed bipartisan legislation expanding early learning scholarships for disadvantaged children. He also backed a bill directing preschool funding to low-income families.[^3] That year he opposed a proposal to establish a Department of Early Childhood.[^3] He has argued that math and literacy scores should improve before legislators "throw money" at public schools, and he has described DFL funding proposals as "unrealistic".[^3]
Kresha has opposed most of Governor Walz's education proposals. He has called them "mandates" and said they would "indoctrinate students with messages that focus on our nation's flaws".[^3] After the investigation into [[Feeding Our Future]], which the cited summary describes as one of the largest federal fraud cases in the state's history, he criticized how the Walz administration oversaw grants.[^3] He opposed language that would have required comprehensive sex education in elementary and secondary schools.[^3]
Kresha has co-authored bills to amend the provision of the state constitution that guarantees all children a fundamental right to a quality public education.[^3] He has also criticized [[Education Minnesota]].[^3] The cited source does not identify these bills by number, date or vote.[^3]
## Personal life
Kresha and his wife, Wendy, live in Little Falls, Minnesota. They have five children.[^5]
