It takes in portions of [[Brooklyn Center, Minnesota]], and Brooklyn Park, both in Hennepin County.[^1] Vang was first elected in 2018, succeeding the retiring Debra Hilstrom. As of the cited October 2026 revision of her Wikipedia article, she chairs the House Agriculture Finance and Policy Committee. She has carried bills on commercial turtle harvesting and on local pesticide bans.[^1] This pack holds no primary legislative, election or court records for her. The record below therefore rests on that article and does not establish bill numbers, vote counts, election margins or committee dates beyond what the article states.[^1] ## Early life, education, and career Vang was born in north [[Minneapolis]] and grew up there. Her parents are refugees from Thailand.[^1] She is a graduate of [[Robbinsdale Armstrong High School]] and of [[Gustavus Adolphus College]], where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and communications.[^1] ## Minnesota House of Representatives Vang won her House seat in the 2018 election, when incumbent Debra Hilstrom retired. She has won reelection in each two-year cycle since.[^1] During 2021–22 she was vice chair of the Agriculture Finance and Policy Committee. In the same period she co-chaired the People of Color and Indigenous Caucus and was a co-founder of the Minnesota Asian Pacific Caucus.[^1] As of the cited revision, she chairs the agriculture committee. She is also a member of the Legacy Finance Committee and of the finance and policy committees for Environment and Natural Resources and for Higher Education.[^1] A police officer shot Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center, which is Vang's hometown and part of her district. Afterward, she called for enforcing the oversight authority of the state's [[Peace Officer Standards and Training Board]]. She also called for eliminating the statute of limitations on civil suits against law enforcement.[^1] Vang has twice introduced legislation to end commercial turtle harvesting in Minnesota, first in 2019 and again in 2021. The 2019 proposal was left out of that year's final Fish and Game bill in the Senate.[^1] In 2021 she also authored a bill that would let cities ban any pesticide the [[Minnesota Department of Agriculture]] designated as "pollinator-lethal". The pack does not record the bill numbers or the final disposition of the 2021 measures.[^1] ## Personal life Vang lives in Brooklyn Center.[^1] ## Notes [^1]: Wikipedia contributors, *Samantha Vang* (revision 1378322702, retrieved 2026-10-26) — biographical, electoral, committee and legislative history as summarized in the article; the pack carries no primary legislative records.
