## Story
Palladium was discovered in 1802 by English chemist William Hyde Wollaston, who named it for the asteroid 2 Pallas, which had itself been discovered the previous year. It was isolated from platinum ore residues and was initially met with skepticism about whether it was truly a distinct element. Palladium is more abundant than most platinum-group metals (0.015 mg/kg) but still scarce.
Palladium is a silvery-white metal of moderate density and remarkable chemical inertness at room temperature. Its most prominent use is in catalytic converters for vehicles, where it oxidizes carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons.
