## Story
Rhodium was discovered in 1803 by English chemist William Hyde Wollaston while dissolving platinum ore in aqua regia. It was named for the rose-colored solutions (Greek rhodon, rose) produced during its isolation. Like its platinum-group neighbors, rhodium is extremely rare (0.001 mg/kg crustal abundance) and extracted primarily as a platinum ore byproduct.
Rhodium is a hard, silvery metal with the highest reflectivity of any element and exceptional resistance to corrosion. Its primary use is in catalytic converters for automobile emissions control, where it catalyzes the reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) to harmless nitrogen gas.
