# Cleveland Trust Company
*Trust company at which the Cleveland Foundation Model of community foundations was invented in 1914.*
The **Cleveland Trust Company** is the trust company where [[Frederick Goff]] invented the [[Cleveland Foundation Model]] on January 2, 1914, according to the project's validated master history of Minnesota.[^1] That history's own footnote records the Goff and Cleveland Trust attribution and the date as primary-confirmed. It cites the [[Cleveland Foundation]] centennial as its basis.[^2]
The company appears in the [[Minnesota]] record only as the place where the [[Community foundation]] form began. The master history states that the form came to Minnesota as a trust-department product line.[^1] It records twelve community foundations founded in 1915. It also records that the [[American Bankers Association]]'s Trust Company Section created a permanent Committee on Community Trusts in 1920.[^2] The record does not establish any other role for the company in a Minnesota matter.[^1]
## History
The record in the pack dates the Cleveland Foundation Model to January 2, 1914, and credits its invention to Frederick Goff at the Cleveland Trust Company.[^2] The form spread through bank trust departments. Twelve community foundations were founded in 1915, and in 1920 the American Bankers Association's Trust Company Section set up a permanent Committee on Community Trusts. Validation confirmed both of these items.[^1][^2] The pack documents no other event in the company's history.[^2]
