## Story
Xenon was discovered in 1898 by English chemists William Ramsay and Morris Travers by fractional distillation of liquid air. The name reflects its rarityโxenos meaning strange or foreign in Greek. Xenon is extraordinarily scarce, occurring at only 0.00003 mg/kg in the atmosphere, making it one of the rarest elements on Earth.
Xenon is a colorless, odorless noble gas with remarkable chemical inertness. Its primary modern use is in high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps for automotive headlights and applications requiring bright, efficient light output. Xenon-129 (ยนยฒโนXe) at hyperpolarized spin states is a superior alternative to helium-3 for magnetic resonance lung imaging (MRI), particularly valuable where helium-3 supply is constrained.
